Two football players of Himachal Pradesh were selected in NHPC Sports Scholarship

Scholarships were awarded to 10 talented sportspersons in kabaddi, football, boxing, wrestling and para sports as part of the ‘Sports Scholarship Scheme for Emerging Players’ by the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC). NHPC Chairman and Managing Director AK Singh handed over the first installment to the talented sportspersons at a special function held at Corporate Headquarters Faridabad. Suriya and Meenu Dutta of Khad village of Haroli subdivision of district Una have been selected in this scholarship scheme.

State Football Association General Secretary Deepak Sharma said that it is a matter of pride to have two players from the Girls Youth Football Academy Khad. He informed that more than a hundred rural girls are learning football in this academy. Sharma said that the event was organized through video conferencing keeping in mind the Covid-19 pandemic.
Out of the 10 players selected, 4 players attended the event along with their family members, while the remaining 6 players participated through video conferencing. This is the second batch of selected sportspersons to be awarded sports scholarships by NHPC. He said that this scholarship will help in nurturing the emerging sportspersons who can earn fame for the country.

Baldev Tomar, President of State Football Association and Vice Chairman of Food Supply Corporation, congratulated him on receiving NHPC Sports Scholarship and praised him for his hard work and efforts. He also thanked the parents of the players for their full support and encouragement for the preparation of the games.

NHPC has placed the selected players under the Elite Scholar and Scholar categories according to the track record and ranking in their respective sports based on the sports policy. The total maximum duration of the scholarship is three years subject to annual performance review. During this period, players in the elite scholar category will receive monthly stipends of Rs 12000, 13000 and Rs 14000 respectively during the first, second and third year, while players in the scholar category will receive monthly stipends of 9000, 10,000 and 11,000 respectively.

Players selected under Boxing, Wrestling and Para Sports Jale singles games will be entitled to an additional amount of Rs 48,000 for travel, vehicle expenses etc. while participating in maximum 6 All India ranking tournaments. All the players selected under this scheme will also be entitled to spend Rs 5000 annually on the kit.
